IEP Question

I am having trouble with the IEP question on the final, I cannot seem to locate the information for it in the book, can anyone help me with figuring out where I can get the info? No, I am not asking for the answer, just some help to come to the answer myself! Thanks in advance!! :)

Finals Week

How is everyone's week going? I am almost done, working on this final today, one more tonight at 6 and then one tomorrow at 6, I can't wait to be on break and home with my family and friends. I hope that everyone's week is going well and that there isn't too much stress happening, I also hope that everyone break goes well :)

A much needed Break!

Just wanted to say I hope everyone has a wonderful and safe break! I know for me it is much needed, and I get the opportunity to head down to Florida for a week of it, so for that I am very thankful! Richmond can definitely drive a person crazy sometimes! I have enjoyed this class and getting to know all of you, and making some new friends :) As a 5th year going through college, I will tell you that making connections with people in your classes and programs helps tremendously in the long run, and it helps to have those people to walk through the process with you!

PLEASE NOTE . . . Your study guide for the final was a GUIDE. The questions on the test are in a DIFFERENT order and some questions may vary slightly.

BE CAREFUL when pasting your questions into the test that you READ THE QUESTION and paste your answer into the right place and that it actually ANSWERS the question ON THE TEST!!!!

SO inspiring!

We watched this video in one of my other SED classes and it brought tears to my eyes. It is beyond touching and inspiring and I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I did!

Final Exam Study Guide?

Does anyone know if Ms. White has posted the study guide yet? I thought in class she said she would post one or send us an email with one on Wed. I just wanted to check and make sure I didn't miss an email or post.

I just wanted to say Good Luck to everyone on finals next week!

ASL

Hey Adam,

In class you talked about your daughter wanting to learn ASL. I don't know of classes at the Lexington Public Library and I looked on their event calendar and found nothing. However, ASL is my minor and there are many websites out there that are very helpful.

http://www.lifeprint.com/ Life print is an amazing website to use. On the website a guy has created lessons that are similar to my ASL 101, 102, and 202 textbooks. You could use the website and teacher her a lesson everyday.

http://www.aslpro.com/ ASL pro is another good website but it is more of a dictionary.

Also every first and third Friday of the month deaf and hard of hearing people from Lexington all come together and meet at the Fayette mall food court to socialize. EKU students are always coming to these event. Next time I go to the mall I can ask someone if they know of any classes that are provided to teach ASL. I can also ask one of my ASL professors for you.

I think the best thing to do is take an ASL class at EKU and then just reteach your daughter when you get home that way you are both learning a new language and teaching her helps you remember the language. ASL is a beautiful language I would encourage everyone to learn it because as a special education teacher you can use it to communicate obviously with Deaf and hard of hearing students but you can also use it to communicate with nonverbal autistic children or any student that can't communicate verbally. Hope this helps you. :)

Language Analysis Project!

I just submitted my project! It's like a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders but I am still stressing! :( I am nervous and I hope I did well. Ugh! I hope all of you do well!!! Good luck guys!! :)

House Rules by Jodi Picoult

This is a great book! It's about a teenage boy that gets caught up in a murder investigation. The catch is that Jacob, the boy, has Asperger's syndrome and finds it impossible to lie or expand upon anything but the facts to prove himself innocent. Each chapter is told from the first person perspective of either Jacob, his mother, his younger brother, or someone associated with the investigation. Jodi Picoult does a lot of research for her books, and she manages to bring out both the positive and negative sides of Autism in a really touching way. Anyway, I thought this would make a great present for someone, or maybe a great addition to your own Christmas list. :)

I showed my three year old son a video on youtube of a lady signing, he ask me what she was doing. I told him that she was talking with her hands. He looked up at me and said "Her hands talk?"

D-Pan

Watching the videos in class last night reminded me of a concert I attended for ASL in Danville. It was conducted by a group called D-Pan, which is a group that produces music videos for the deaf and hard of hearing. Its really neat heres a link to one of their music videos.

Language Project

I can't attend the meeting on Wednesday.. So now we are having another meeting SATURDAY at 10 a.m.! If you would like to come. Where.. I don't know yet. I was thinking Chipotle in Hamburg. After I get the email in reply I will confirm everything! Come join if you would like!

Finals!!?!?!!?!?!

I cannot believe finals are just around the corner! It is INSANE that I only have like 2-3 meetings of each class left! Where has the semester gone!? It is mind blowing for sure. I definitely would LOVE to keep in touch with people from this class and OF COURSE keep in touch with YOU Mrs. White!!(:

Keith Jones

I really enjoyed the Youtube clip Ms White showed in class about Keith Jones. I have seen the movie Including Samuel many times and I forgot all about Keith Jones. The video clip inspired me to look for youtube videos that included his hip hop music but I was unsuccessful. (If someone knows of a link for his music I would love to listen to it.) However I did come across many other videos of his on youtube that were very interesting. One of the videos included a speech he gave at the Federation for Children with Special Needs' in 2008. His speech is very humorous but yet his message and cause is very powerful.

Thanksgiving Break

I hope everyone had a WONDERFUL Thanksgiving break!! I got to spend it with my family from out of town and it was amazing.. (especially after the Language project got moved back) I got great deals on Black Friday, oh yes tons of fun! I hope you all have a ton of stories about this break!

Having issues with commenting on others posts. The blog wants me to select a user name, then when I sign in, it shows that I am signed in. It's probably just internet exploerer, but I was wondering if anyone else was having issues.

Thanksgiving!

Complete Frustration!

I am BEYOND frustrated... I have a 20.75 composite on the ACT and they won't round it!!!!!!!! That's only ONE frickin' point on ANY of the tests that I need...

I only need a 21 to get into the Education program! Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Bonus Points Explanation

I have totaled the Bonus Points sheets that you completed in class. 

• The self reflection and scoring sheet was worth 12 points. 
• The peer assessment was worth 9 points. 

I used a spreadsheet and recorded all of these scores.  I averaged the score your peers gave you (you scored yourself on that sheet as well) and then averaged it with your own self assessment score.  This gives a possible 12 bonus points.  Here is a sample from the spreadsheet.

TEST 3

Class,

I apologize that Test 3 has been a HASSLE for many of you!!!  I was attempting to make the test a bit easier with the use of pictures of your work and our field trip.  I chose the wrong type of question format and it did not insert a text box.  

You will see DUPLICATE questions when there is a picture.  You will type your answer into the text box of the SECOND question.  The first one with the picture is not worth any points - just a place holder with the picture.  

If you experience difficulty TEXTING, calling or posting a message on FB is the most immediate way to get an answer from me.  I will try to check email frequently.

Again, I apologize for the confusion and difficulty.

Error

I am still not able to type my answers in a text box, is anyone still having this issue?

Test Error

I'm trying to open the test to take a look at the pictures from the field trip, but it's saying that there's an error. "Assessment changed since the attempt was started". Anybody else having this issue?

Test 3

I am working on test 3 and the questions that have the pictures from our field trip, do not have a text book underneath to type our answers. How do we add the text in order answer the question? I have tried to copy and paste to word, and the text box is not there either. Am I the only one having the problem? Thanks!
