So I know this is a little random as summer was quite a while ago but I worked at a camp for children with special needs this summer such as autism, EBD, ADHD, ect. I absoluted loved the experience, if anyone is looking for a job this summer and doesn't mind going all the way to Perrysville Ohio or you know a kid that may have trouble going to other camps, send them our way. So even though I loved it, there was one behavior that I just couldn't seem to work with and that is the habit of just walking away and not saying where they are going, not in the sense of wandering as they don't know better but walk away in the sense of "eff this guys." If it only happens once or twice I can deal but I had one kid who would do it multiple times a day, it almost made me cry once sadly enough. What do you do about that? We would try to barter with him and tell him that all he had to do was say he needed a minute or say he was going to the bathroom or whatever but it didn't help and we didn't know what else to do. It was clearly for attention and it killed me. Any suggestions before I go back next summer?

Hey Mandy,
ReplyDeleteWhere is Perrysville exactly located? I have never heard of it. I'm about 45mins North of Dayton, and about 2 hours West of Columbus. Where can I get more information?
campnuhop.org is the website. Perrysville is just south of Ashland and really close to Mansfield, about an hour or so north of Columbus. I'm not sure if that makes sense or not, I'm not very familiar with Ohio.
